Midsummer Harp Merriment

CAMMAC 2015
CAMMAC 2015
I am freshly returned from an amazing and fun week at CAMMAC in the Laurentians teaching a wonderful group of harpers and playing with incredible and fun faculty including soprano Geneviève Proulx, pianist Geneviève Jalbert, fiddle player Laura Risk and singer-songwriter Linda Morrison.
And… this week you will find me giving a concert in Napanee and playing at the Glengarry Highland Games in Maxville before heading off to the Cariboo Mountains to teach with Kim Robertson, Seumas Gagne and Brenda Dor-Groot. (for details, keep on scrolling!)
Merry Midsummer, Sharlene

The Riverwood Conservancy and the City of Mississauga are pleased to present: “Our Night Sky”, a new show for young audiences of all ages, created and performed by the Chamber Music Society of Mississauga (CMSM). This free admission, Preview Performance, is scheduled for Monday, August 31, rain or shine, beginning at 8 pm in the Riverwood Barn. Bring your own lawn chairs.
Inspired by the night sky above us all, “Our Night Sky” is a 50 minute show of storytelling and music. In “Our Night Sky”, the narrator, who falls asleep under the night sky at her grandmother’s farm, tells the story of a young girl exploring the night sky in her dreams as she remembers the stories from all over the world, that her grandmother told her. This story is accompanied by a CMSM chamber ensemble.
The musical score has been created by Mississauga composer, Michael Coghlan and the story that it accompanies has been created by a collaborative team of CMSM’s Artistic Director, Peggy Hills, working with Randy Attwood of the Royal Astronomical Society of Mississauga, Angela Fusco, actor, Trish O’Reilly, actor. The performing musicians will be Ben Bolt Martin, cello; Peggy Hills, violin; Kim Norris, Chinese and western flute; Richard Moore, percussion; Sharlene Wallace, harp; Barbara Croall, First Nations cedar flute; Subhadra Vijaykumar, carnatic violin; Eileen Keown, piano; Michael Coghlan, synthesizer; and Denis Mastromonaco, conductor.
CMSM is proud to introduce the narrator for “Our Night Sky”, 13 year old Camille Labonté, singer, actor, guitarist, flute player and pianist, a member of the Mississauga Symphony Youth Orchestra and former member of the Toronto Children’s Chorus and the Mississauga Children’s Choir.
Viewing of the real night sky with telescopes will follow this performance on the Chappell lawn. Special thanks to Randy Attwood of the Royal Astronomical Society for arranging this.
